Gail Sylvester-Johnson

Gail began her distinguished career at Rutgers University on October 17, 1994, in the Office of the President as a Secretary II. In this role, she provided critical administrative support to the Secretary of the University and the Assistant to the President, while also serving as backup support for the Executive Vice President.

In 2003, Gail transitioned to the Office of the Secretary to the Board of Governors and Trustees, where she supported the Secretary as an Administrative Assistant. Her commitment to excellence and institutional knowledge made her an invaluable asset during this time.

From 2004 to 2006, Gail contributed to the John J. Heldrich Workforce Development Center, offering administrative support to both professional staff and Center faculty. Her work helped advance the Center’s mission of workforce innovation and research.

Since 2007, Gail has served in the Office of the Ombudsperson for Students as a confidential administrative assistant. In this role, she continues to provide dedicated support to the Ombudsperson, helping ensure that student concerns are addressed with care, fairness, and confidentiality.

Gail is a proud Rutgers alumna, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology and a Master’s in Social Work. She also earned an Addiction Counselor Certificate (ACT) in 2018, reflecting her commitment to student wellness and advocacy.

With over three decades of service in higher education, Gail’s career reflects a deep dedication to Rutgers University and its students. Her compassion and institutional expertise make her a trusted and respected member of the university community.
